ModMap Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 April 2026
ModMap is a car modification and maintenance tracker for iOS. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it lives. It's short on purpose — ModMap is built to minimise data collection.
About this website
modmap.co.uk uses Cloudflare Web Analytics — a privacy-first analytics service that doesn't use cookies, doesn't fingerprint visitors, and doesn't collect personal data. It records aggregate page-view counts and referrers so we can see which content is useful. No data is sold or shared.
The website itself sets no cookies. We do not use any other tracking, advertising, or profiling tools.
Everything below this section describes the iOS app specifically.
What data ModMap stores
On your device: every car, modification, service record, fuel entry, expense, compliance date, roadmap, photo, backup file, and preference you create. Stored in the app's sandboxed container and file-protected by iOS. We (the developers) have no access to this data.
In your iCloud private database: if you're signed into iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, the same data syncs across your devices via Apple's CloudKit private database. This is your iCloud storage — only you can see it. Apple's privacy policy applies.
Photos: hero photos on cars (free tier), and optional mod / service photos (Pro tier) are stored as JPEG files locally and synced via your iCloud private database. Same privacy as above.
What data ModMap sends externally
DVLA / DVSA (UK only): when you tap "Lookup by Reg" on UK cars, the app sends the registration number to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and DVSA MOT History API. These are UK government services and the request contains only the reg number. No other personal data is sent. The response (make, model, year, colour, MOT dates, mileage) is stored locally as described above.
Apple StoreKit: when you purchase ModMap Pro, Apple handles the transaction. We never see your payment details. We receive only a transaction receipt confirming the subscription is active.
Anonymous usage analytics: ModMap records aggregate feature-usage events (e.g. "a car was added", "a PDF was exported") to Apple's CloudKit public database. Each event includes the event name, timestamp, an optional enum-valued category (never free text), and a random per-install hash that rotates when you reinstall. No user identity, no device identifier, no location, no reg plates, no personal data. You can turn this off in Settings > Privacy > Anonymous analytics.
What we never collect
- → Your name, email, phone number, or address
- → Location data
- → Contacts, photos from your camera roll (except ones you explicitly attach to a car), or any device sensor data
- → Advertising identifiers or tracking tokens
- → Any data used for advertising or cross-app profiling
Your controls
- → Export your data: Settings > Data > Export Backup — a
.modmapJSON file with your full garage - → Delete a car: Settings > Danger Zone (on each car)
- → Delete everything: uninstall the app. Local data is wiped by iOS. Your iCloud private database entries remain in your iCloud until you clear ModMap from iCloud Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage
- → Opt out of anonymous analytics: Settings > Privacy
Children
ModMap is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
